LIVE 3. fuck they want our money again

Post by guest » Sat Aug 23, 2003 11:00 am

I'm looking forward on getting an mac optimized (altivec!) LIVE version which is still missing by now in 2.1.1 - that's very poor IMO.
So maybe they'll have somthing prepared here for just announced Live 3
and sure they'll have some good new features as well

- but hey we paid loyal fee as upgrade to get a better LIVE version about 8-9 months ago and now we should pay again .... ???

Don't get me wrong they should be payed for their work - but we should get a OS-X version that realy performs as possible thats what mac users also have paid but not recieved by now.

SO what's the answer from Ableton - I guess I know : further ignoring the mac OS X users requests and ask for money with new features to cover the bad points of LIVE....

this attitude kinda sucks - i vote for a free OS-X & altivec optimized LIVE 2.5 and a affordable 'new feature' loaded LIVE 3 version (less than 50 dollars).

like Stid said in another post - we definitely need an OS X optimized version - if we get it with 3 and it works, then I'm willing to pay an upgrade fee ...

You can already. Just load reaktor 4 fx and load whatever sequenced synths/drummachine ensemble you have.

You can't play 'em "live" though by triggering. You may as well slap everything on a DAT machine and take that to a gig and let everyone shake their asses to that.

You can still tweak reaktor from within Live. Not much different than tweaking live knobs to scramble a loop.

Inevitably wary

I can't help but feel a certain amount of caution seeing as the Live development team explicitly admitted to rushing the release of Live 2.0 in order to pay the developers, and then scrambling to release updates to fix bugs they knew had to be there.

What about this time? Do they feel they just HAVE to have an influx of cash or do they genuinely have something serious to offer? The fact that I'm already mouthing off before the beta is out shows how anxious I am for Live 3 to meet my mac performace needs.

Here's to hoping, because knowing me I almost definitely won't be able to resist buying the update soon after it's released. Ableton, us hardcore mac users can't help ourselves- I think most of us will be upgrading because we love using Live so much- so please don't let us down!

well said Muser, I feel just the same. It's because I really dig this software that I feel so passionate on this topic.

I'm just wondering what we PC users get out of this? Paying for bugfixes? Paying for Mac optimisation? Well,...
Let's hope they've improved at least the stretch algorythm to ACID/Sonar level.

well in abelton 3, i want,
VSTi support as every1 is hoping for, this is #1, and more bugifixes for XP, not implementing new 1's and creating more problems like 2.1.1, and generally for it to work consistantly instead of being tempremental. iF theze arent fixed when i get the upgrade, Abelton wil be hearing from me and afew friends.

just speculation, but i bet we won't see midi tracks or vsti this time.

in v3.0, i bet the altivec thing is taken care of, the timestretching is improved, and there are a few really fundamental interface enhancements (like better monitoring options, sample loop points, saved presets for vstfx, etc.)
