Got a demo of fm7 and it works fine until I try tweaking the sound or changing the preset then I get no sound. Works fine in Live 4.14.

fm7 not working in 5.2
Which OS? I just installed the NI-versary FM7 on my Mac (G4) and the VST version (both instrument and FX) crashes Live 5.2. The Audio Unit versions seem to work OK based on a quick check. The VST version crashes Cubase SE3, too...
I haven't registered yet, so I don't know about possible updates, but that is not a good start. I'll be trying the VST in Windows XP soon, I have the exact same versions of both Cubase SE3 and Live 5.2 there.

The Mac version of FM7 is already 1.1.1.015, there's an update to 1.1.2 but it is for the standalone version only. Then again, the standalone doesn't start up either. (Mac OS X 10.4.7)
The Windows XP version of FM7 is 1.10.006, and it works fine both in Live 5.2.1 and Cubase SE3 (3.0.3.658). Also standalone works.
Seems it is not a Live problem then. But now my Cubase SE3 won't start on Mac. There must be some way to disable plugin checks at startup... Live is much smarter in this respect, next time it realises that something wasn't right and disables the problem plug-in.

Solved, and how... It turns out that FM7 VST and standalone both die if the keyboard layout of Mac OS X is something else than U.S. English. Now, how lame is that? For some reason the Audio Unit versions work, despite the keyboard layout.
I just verified this: if I switch to the U.S. keyboard layout, FM7 standalone starts up, and the VST version works in Cubase SE3. But apparently Live has now decided that the VST version is hopeless -- the manual says if it crashes a second time, it will be made unavailable until it is installed again. Well, I don't want to do that, so I guess I'll just use the AU version in Live.
