IS the Kenton Control Freak difficult to program?

Post by vdrum » Sun Aug 31, 2003 10:55 pm

I have never programmed anything midi before. Im aware that the Kenton C.F. needs to be programmed. I want to use the sliders for volume control and 6 buttons to arm tracks for recording....difficult?

Anyone have experience with this unit?

Thanks,

TK

Assuming the 'Freak already has some midi cc presets assigned to the knobs and sliders, you might not even need to programme it, simply do it in Live as normal-which is a cinch. Either way, can't be that hard-go to it!

Piece of cake.
You dont have to edit the Control freak.

Steps are:

1. Choose a program number on the freak. ( memories it -- its your ableton setup now.)
2. Assign midi parameters within live.

Youy dont have to alter the freak at all.

In answer to your question, yes, the CF is bugger to program. Nice piece of gear, but if you're not familiar with MIDI programming, it is a challenging device to learn on... I am very happy with my Remote 25, and the programming is much easier. Granted, the CF can do just about anything that can be done w/MIDI, while the Remote is a little more limited. Plus the CF is red and made of metal. And $100 cheaper...

on your planet maybe :-) the control freak is not at all difficult to program once you read the manual - its worth using the PC editor tho because entering text via a jog wheel can be a bit of a pain.

for using live i just took one of the basic templates that had a cc associated with each fader and then programmed the buttons to send note info. 10 minutes work.
