HELP : Live 5.2.1 behaves oddly after upgrade

Post by Pasha » Thu Aug 24, 2006 6:50 am

They always tell 'it is not broken do not fix it'.... :?
I was working fine with 5.2 then I upgraded to 5.2.1, then the problems began:

This happens after I have removed every VST from VST folder. I'm using External gear for sounds

1. In the middle of playback or recording the MIDI IN Live indicator turns still red (no flashing) and MIDI/Audio is broken since then, Live becomes sluggish and I have to reboot.
Exiting Live is not an option because remains hanged as an unkillable process in Task Manager. Not even TasKKill is able to properly end the program.

2. If I change audio prefrences (samplerate from 44 to 96) the MIDI IN turns still red (no flashing) and I go to point 1. Reboot.

3. More over the same happens if during playback I minimize the window, with the addition of audio stopped (what's in the song is not audible anymore and an high piched whistle goes through the monitors, until I reboot.

Is this happening to some of you after upgrade?
I have tried to come back to 5.2 but results are the same. I have reinstalled all drivers (Audio & MIDI) and Livre 5.2.1 itself. No success.

- Any suggestion?

I haven't had this with Live, but what your describing sounds very much like a midi feedback loop.

Is Live sending midi data to itself, and then out again? If it is, this can cause major problems including crashing of the host.

You may want to check where your midi is being sent and whether your hardware is sending back a copy to Live's midi input.

I don't know why this should happen after an upgrade though.

Hope this helps,

Tony

Thanks Tony,
I'll check it out. I did not thought about that.
I disabled all sync messages from my 'master' Kbd, a Roland JW50 (I'm waiting Axiom to arrive at my dealer's) because I thought a sort of massive amount of MIDI messages I was not aware of was going on.
It could have been a MIDISPORT 2x2 failure. But it was not so.
Now I'll check for loops between MIDI IN and MIDI OUTs. Your message rang a bell.
I'll give a check to MIDI cables as well.

I have tested again and again.
What I'm sure, and I can reproduce it 90% of the times is that MIDI light goes red if I change AUDIO Preferences from 44100 to 96000 Mgz and back.
What I don't understand is what audio prefs has to do with MIDI.
This happens even when using simpler.

Anybody?
