real-time midi program change

Post by Danimal » Mon Aug 28, 2006 6:02 am

In the midi clip view, under the "notes" section, when I change programs numbers I'd expect Live to send them in real time to external midi gear.

Please tell me this is possible... maybe in 6?

The program change becomes embedded at the start of the Clip. While playing, the prog change is sent at the start of the clip (not when stopped). At least that's how it s'posed to work, don't use it myself.

Hope this helps

I have a track in Live that I use for changing patches in Arkaos VJ. That's all that track does.

The program change is sent as soon as the MIDI clip is fired. There's nothing else in the clip I use, but AFAIK the program change can be part of any MIDI clip.

If you want to change patches quickly, set up a track with the different patch numbers in MIDI clips, and fire the clips with a MIDI controller or QWERTY keyboard. The clip can also be launched along with a scene, which can be useful, too.

Thanks for the responses. I understand about patches being "part of the clip" - and all once you record them. Interesting suggestion about assigning them to the qwerty keys.

But this is before I even start to record. I want to be able scroll through patches while in Live on external midi gear (moog voyager) until I find something I'm looking for... Without having to reach across the room to dial them up on the board. This is honestly not the first sequencer-type software I've seen lacking this feature. But the "majority" all have it.
