Live 5.2 - Windows XP - CPU spike when previewing samples

Post by groovebox » Mon Sep 04, 2006 3:07 am

Hi all,

Using 5.2 (have d/loaded but not upgraded to 5.2.1) - on Windows XP Pro SP2 - 1GB RAM - P4 2.53ghz - 128MB video card.

New to these parts - have had a good look through other posts and could not find any possible solution for the problem I am having.

Live works just fine except for one annoying problem - sometimes when previewing samples the CPU meter will spike suddenly and the system chokes for a second or two before previewing the sample.

This has happened since I brought Live a few months ago. I initially put it down to not having enough RAM and the age of my old video card. I upgraded both.

It is intermittent (sadly) and does not happen all the time but often enough to be a pain - the samples can be long or short.

My system is pretty clean - I do have AV installed - but have disabled that for the moment and have had a scan through the other services and they don't appear to be the problem.

The only interesting thing is that when the CPU spikes - the reading goes all the way to a crazy number - most often 1,000%.

At this stage I have altered latency (using a Soundblaster card) and that does not appear to resolve the issue.

I have Sony Music Studio installed too and it seems to be fine when previewing samples.

Other then this - Live works like a champ and I have no other issues.

Not sure where else to look at this stage so any pointers or comments would be appreciated if you have a minute.

Respectfully
Brynley
