I would like to use my Pioneer EFX-500 effects with Live. It is awkwardly possible now if a track is created through which all other tracks are routed. It works, but it generates a whole bunch of new problems. It would be much better to have it on a Return track that would function same as Send/Return on a DJ mixer.
It looks to me like just a simple I/O issue. Possible solution would be once I/O is clicked, under every Send there would be an option to choose sending directly to return track OR sending to soundcard output. Also on Return track it should let you pick where is it coming from, defaulting directly from the Send or soundcard input.

That is exactly how I tried to set it up. 4 audio tracks having an output to External 1+2 OUT on soundcard, which goes into send on EFX-500. Then the return on EFX-500 goes into 1+2 IN on soundcard. Track 5 input is 1+2 IN and output as Master. So this way, track number 1 through 4 goes through Track 5, which is as close to Send/Return as I can get. This however is not a TRUE send/retun as it starts to function as an effect on a channel and introduces the following issues:annihilator.1 wrote:you can do what you suggested with the I/O just look at the Audio to options & add an audio track to act as return
1. External effects unit (EFX-500 in my case) MUST be always turned ON!
2. The return of EFX-500 must always send signal so it goes through.
3. Whether I want it or not, everything must go through the effects unit all the time!
4. Having it set up this way, one track can't have effects applied to it while others don't.
There might be more issues that I can't think of right now. But you get the idea.
So what I am getting at is I need to have a SEND KNOB, which sends it to a Return track and that return track produces the effect and plays it on that Return channel. Only the effect is not software, but I/O routed hardware.
