Tascam FW-1802/FW-1884/US-2400... any experience anyone?

Post by Toonman » Wed Sep 20, 2006 7:05 pm

Has anyone used any of these? I wonder how the FW's compare against Digidesign or RME in terms of audio quality, and against the Mackie Control or Digi002 (including the US-2400) in terms of DAW control. If anyone has any experience with them, I'll be happy to hear about it.

(Sorry for the double post, but my last post didn't get too much attention, possibly because I didn't post my question properly).

Thanks all!!

I own an FW1082, and it's an awesome soundcard , the best i ever had, and the control surface is very efficient.i come from a behringer BCF2000, and the tascam is definitely in another league in term of quality......
At the moment, there's a small bug in mackie mode emulation with LIVE 6 beta on OSX, it doesn't work properly (it work perfect on windows though)
It work perfectly in LIVE 5.2.2
I think that it's an excellent product..

Thanks a lot Commuter. That's more or less what I wanted to hear. If you can spare the details, can you give me some additional info?

* How's the driver's stability/performance with Tascam?
* How's Tascam when it comes to support?
* Do you have any idea how would it compare against a Digi002/M-audio ProjectMix/RME Fireface?

Thank you very much for your help. I am looking towards a big upgrade of my home studio next year.
Cheers!

* How's the driver's stability/performance with Tascam?
Perfect on OSX and Windows, i can get really low latency without problems in live about 5,35ms with a 128 buffer size, no crackles no pop on both my mac mini and macbook pro on OSX and Windows.
* How's Tascam when it comes to support?
Never had to deal directly with them, but when i bought it, i didn't get the cubase LE and drivers CD, so i sent an email to the french distributor (which is Sennheiser, strange no ?)and they shipped me the cd in two days!!!So i would say great support but it's not what you want to hear....
* Do you have any idea how would it compare against a Digi002/M-audio ProjectMix/RME Fireface?
I never heard an RME and manage to use the project mix for a few minutes, but i had to work with a DIGI002 and i think the tascam is as good if not better than this DIGI...but that's IMHO,
