Live, Mac Target Firewire Mode & Licences.

Post by tub » Sat Sep 23, 2006 9:00 am

Mornin'
I was wondering if anyone has ever had License problems when switching between Macs using target firewire mode a lot.

Example: I've got a Powerbook and an iMac, when I'm at home I put the Powerbook into target mode, and boot my OSX install from the iMac for some 64-bit love.
Every time I switch from the iMac to the Powerbook, or vice versa, I have to unlock Live again.

I'm worried that because of this frequent unlocking my license will be blocked, even though I've only ever got one installation of Live, I just happen to run it on different hardware a lot.

why dont you just install it on the imac?... then you wont have to worry about this issue.

It's because it's only one installation of Live, which is locked to some unique system identifier (probably the serial number).
When this changes, Live gets you to unlock it again.

I'd rather not have to use an external disk, or keep transferring stuff between my Powerbook and iMac. I play gig's fairly frequently, and generally keep writing tunes until about 10 mins before I leave so it's nice to just 'eject' my powerbook, and boot it up again.

well why not boot in target mode, authorize live on the imac, and save projects on the powerbook?... like it is an external drive.

There is also the networking over firewire option.

Don't you have two unlocks, as far as you don't use both at the same time?
Turn up the radio. Turn up the tape machine. Look into the sunset up ahead. Roll the windows down for a better taste of the cool desert wind. Ah yes. This is what it's all about. Total control now.
