Fireface 800 connections

Post by BeyondReazon » Sun Sep 24, 2006 10:57 am

I'm thinking of getting a fireface 800 and was wondering if the pre amps are good enough to connected my synths directly. The idea is to get rid of my mixer completely and go for the cleanest path.

Currently I have all synths going into a behringer eurorack and then into an m-audio delta1010.

thanks

Why would you want the pre-amps for synth's?

Oh yeah, well I'll be plugging in mics aswell. Basically I heard somewhere on this forum that people thought the pre amps weren't all that good. Does anyone know any reason why not to part with the cash for one of these?

Preamps are not great, but still miles ahead of Behringer.

Sure they're not boutique preamps but for what the majority of us do I think they're very good indeed, as someone said above it's a bit of an insult to the FF to even mention it in the same breath as Behringer. The only real competitor to the FF in that price range is the Metric Halo 2882, it's pres are reputedly slightly better but it's a very marginal thing-personally I don't mic as much as some folks might, but when I do I'm still more than happy with the results. On top of this I preferred the hardware/software functionality of the FF over the MH. I'm mixerless and use direct monitoring for synths etc and a single volume control for the monitors.
