midi and multiple instances

ok, i have two instances of live going. the problem is syncing the two. i have the start button in both linked to one key in my keyboard, but they always have a 1 or 2 step delay with each other. is there some way to rewire one into the other? or should i just try adjusting the triggering delay in the midi preferences? any help would be appreciated
