Ableton Tuition

Post by sambo27 » Tue Sep 26, 2006 1:57 pm

Hi there,

I’m a music technology graduate from Leeds UK and as a fairly competent Ableton user I’ve recently thought about starting up some kind of 1 on one tuition as a way of passing on my knowledge and maybe making some money!

I haven’t thoroughly thought through how I’m going to go about doing this or whether it will be viable. I just thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else on the board had done a similar thing?

Anyway it would be great to here people’s thoughts on this subject.

Best thing is to put an ad in the local paper, and on Craigslist etc. Decide what is a fair amount to charge per hour and advertise.
You might get raped and murdered though.

Good idea. Either that or i'll have to start sending bills to my mates

Still wondering what that Ableton teacher accredation is about though.
Can i go from being a nerd to being a licensed nerd?

Berklee school of music does an online course. For college credit, or no credit. Looks pretty good though, I mean, it is Berklee.

I've been thinking about setting up my own business doing this, too. Although I am not a ninja, I could teach people the basics - and this, along with DJ tuition is definitely a growing market at the moment...

LOL I probably wouldn’t consider myself a Ninja either! Ableton is definitely one of those programs that everyone wants to know more about. And yeah the DJ’ing side of things means there is a much wider market.

My idea would probably be more along the lines of one on one tuition as with traditional musical instrument lessons rather than the larger scale workshops and such. I think there is a good market base around Leeds because I found whilst studying music production at Leeds Met, that very few students had actually used the program but they had all heard the hype. We didn’t learn how to use it on the course so I found myself helping mates out with the basics.

I might just start out advertising around the universities and maybe a few gig venues and see if I get any interest. I’m a bit worried about inviting random peeps into my studio though so im going to have to put serious thought into how I’m going to go about it do it!
