MIDI Syncing

Post by Spamhead » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:35 pm

Hello,
A friend and i are attempting to run live on two laptops in sync with one another. Our configuration is as follows:

Computer 1:
Dell Inspiron 9300
Windows XP SP2
M-Audio MobilePre USB Audio interface
M-Audio Axiom 49 Midi Controller/Interface
Ableton Live 5.0.1

Computer 2:
Apple MacBook Pro
OSX
Digidesign M-Box 2 Audio Interface
M-Audio Axiom 61 Midi Controller/Interface
Ableton Live 5.0.1

Computer 1 is to act as the master, sending midi clock data via the Axiom 49's interface (over midi cable) to Computer 2 via its Axiom 61. We are using our audio interfaces for all audio recording inputs and master outputs. Both laptops' interfaces are then to be fed to an analogue mixer for jamming together. Computer 1 confirms sending midi clock because the orange LED in the tempo bar blinks in time. Midi cable and interfaces get signal trhough, as Computer 1's Axiom is able to play through Computers 2's Axiom into a softsynth in Live, however, midi clock data is not being passed to Computer 2 and when sync is set and EXT is enabled in tempo bar. Not sure what the problem would be.

PLEASE HELP!

make sure you enable sync in midi preferences on both machines, one to send on a midi port other to receive on a midi port ++ adjust sync delay to fine tune timing

live needs midi clock not SMPTE for sync to work

i would recommend updating live 5 so that your sync stays in time - i seem to remember a bug in early versions of live 5

BTW, how are you running 5.01 on macbook pro... in rosetta mode????
upgrade to 5.2 intel version ASAP otherwise ur wasting serious processing power.
this could also be part of your sync problem
