I've just bought a Roland Edirol Audio Capture UA-5 from a second hand shop so that I can use Ableton as a DJ platform.
The manual refers to a external audio controller that has either 4 dedicated outputs or 2 stereo outputs.
Now as I am new to this I have no idea whether the unit I have purchased will even do the job let alone whether I am setting it up correctly in Ableton.
Wondered if someone could help me or atleast tell me I've bought the wrong type of controller.

You purchased an audio interface, what exactly are you expecting to get out of it? It is not a controller so you can't control live with it. If you clarify what exactly you want to do maybe i or someone else will be able to assist.
Now as an Audio Interface, i doubt you'll have any compatibilty issues. Just follow the installation instructions. As for the Live part all you need to do is go to the prefrences and under Audio set your Audio Output Device and Audio Input Device to use your UA-5.
Beyond that its upto you. Plug in a mic, guitar, turntable, whatever, in the inputs. And use your headphones or output them to your speakers or both.
Like i said what is it exactly that you want to do.

I was actually looking for an external sound card so that I can cue songs rather than mixing blindly. The guy in the music shop seemed to know what he was talking about, but now I'm starting to doubt this.
When i go into the channel setup the manual says to select 1/2 for master and 3/4 for cueing. Unfortunatly I only have 1, 2 and 1/2 so I guess this piece of equipment is next to useless

Yes, you only have 1 pair of stereo for playback. Sorry about that.... maybe there is a way but i'm not aware of, i doubt it though. My only refrence to UA-5s was the info provided at the Roland website. My suggestion is to give the guy at the shop a visit or call and ask him to clarify.
goodluck

Thanks guys, much appreciated
I guess I'll go back to the shop and swap it for one with more outputs, I guess this is what happens when you buy on the spur of the moment lol.
Lesson learnt
