Live 6 cracks have been online since beta 6.03. But when Live bootlegs give out, they really lock your machine out against any Live legit or not. they put a secret code on your system that forces you to contact Ableton and won't allow any other, normally working bootleg, legit copy or even demo to operate. as soon as you start the program, a sign comes up telling you that you have a illegitamate (or whatever the term was) copy of Live. Then instantly shuts down (no demo mode or anything). It's critical and you loose your song......
....That's what someone else, that I used to know, but no longer have any contact with, told me!

That's fast , but it's true that cracked ableton software leads to a mess after a couple of months. you're simply unable to install any version anymore without a complete reinstall of your system.

I have to admit that as a total broke student I went with cracked ableton v2 and v3 software , though once I got a job my first real purchase was ableton v4 , v5 afterwards and even the operator , and v6 & sampler are for my next paycheck. It just doesn't feel right to use cracked software now that I can afford it.

But , in a way I don' think cracked audio software is as bad as cracked game software : the problem with game software is that once you're old enough to pay for it , you're too old to play it whereas the old cracked versions of ableton made me a real Live adict for years to come.

Well even though cracked software is technically illegal, it is a great way for people to get into music. I couldn't afford anything 2 years ago "I was 14," so I used cracked v4 for the longest time. But when I got a job, and I was making money, I already knew where my money was going. Bought v4 off ebay a week before release, so I got v5 for free.

Best $400 I've ever spent.

dude...admitting that you use cracked software is dumb enough, but to justify that it's okay because it is "a great way for people to get into music" is probably even a little dumber

there are so many freeware options available to people wanting to get into music...what was wrong with installing the entire "FREE" software studio that Computer Music magazine offers to "get into music"?

There's no "technically" about how illegal it is to use cracked software...it just is illegal...give me a break...still using your Reason and Stylus RMX cracked software or did you take up a moonlight job so you could pay for those too?...doesn't matter how old you are either, using cracked software is illegal and you are dumb for doing it and even dumber for admitting it and trying to justify it on a forum where tons of people use it legit!

actually, V2 had a funny little thing you could exploit it... basically, if you made changes to a set, then tried to quit, the "do you want to save" dialog came up and you could hit cancel and the program would run without disabling save!

I used V2 for months like that, but then i liked it so much i bought it....

I used cracked L5 for a month, but after OHCRAPP (use search function for meaning) saved my ass a couple of times, I got rid of the crack and bought as soon as humanly possible.

well, I m currently in front of such a problem: I teach some computer music basis to teenagers (betwenn 15 and 18 ) in workshops after school (so for free, and I m not paid for this): I have to choose the program they will learn, and it's not that easy. freeware or shareware, well free hosts are pretty rare, some are esoteric (trackers, I m used to work with them, but hey, hard to teach and to understand), some are incomplete (so you ll have to switch between programs, exports, etc, not that intuitive), the only pretendant is Reaper.
but it's far from the intuitivness of Live: here is the point, I own Live so I can teach it easily, I know it's pretty good for your first step, assembling loops, you can learn midi basis, play vstis with cimputer keyboard, without going into submenus, etc... the duality arrangement/session is a bit hard to understand, but this can be done.
my school won't have any money to buy 5 live edu licence, we aren't a music school, and that's just a workshop with a dozen of students. I could use the demo, of course, but, errm, don't get me wrong, I won't fight piracy by using the demo as most of the student will download a cracked version as soon as they are back to home, whatever I could say about it. So I ll have to look at another software, and it's sooo bad because I think live was the easiest way to learn how to make music with a puter.
that's not related to the subject, I just try to demonstrate the choice of a software for a newcomer is not that easy as jumping into the first freeware.

 what a square, pompous asshole - get off your high horse....the guy bought the software, didnt he ? as far as I know there's no FREEWARE equivilant to ableton's session view HOST/SEQUENCER - so your sanctimonious reply has two glaring holes in it.
