Post by onyxashanti » Sun Oct 08, 2006 4:55 am

well, we keep on keepin on. the party is crazy small but we have some really interesting guys dropping thru with lots of cool stuff. this week, we had a cat rockin PureData, and the bar manager decided to show off his MC skillz [yeah...] so it was definitely interesting.

you can check out the vids here;

hey man me and my buddy all teeth and knuckles wanna set up a night with a couple other dudes, would it be possible to have an actual booked night instead of a "whoever shows up" type thing? I'm thinking around a month or more away

let me know.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

Hey Onyx, how'd it go last night?

I really need to check this out, but I'm always wiped out by Wednesday..

I would like to start working up a set though, but feel the need to witness the crowd and it's preferences (knowing full well it may vary from week to week).

Can you give me an idea of what's acceptable? I don't really do "electronica" (that I know of), but think I can at least find some common ground and try to bridge the gap between what I want to play and what the crowd will allow :)

I'm talking a DJ-type set, and the stuff I like to jam is:

- hip-hop (not G-Unit, Jay-z, etc. but 80's/90's "classic" hip-hop

- 70's/80's/90's pop, but not by itself, in some kind of mash-up form, with hip-hop beats behind them and what not

80's heavy metal - (also mashed-up with other stuff)

- old-school Electro (both the hip-hop and euro variety, such as Kraftwerk, Nucleus, Egyptian Lover, Cybotron, YAZ, Jonzun Crew, DJ Unknown, Man Parrish)

That's not all I like to play, but hopefully gives you an idea of what I'm about.

So does any of the above sound like it might be crowd-friendly for the Backlit Lounge?

If the answer is "none of the above", that's totally cool, I'll still come check you guys out..
