10.4.8 os x/M-Audio Firewire soundcard problems

Post by Lamont » Wed Oct 11, 2006 11:32 pm

I recently upgraded my Macbook pro 1.83 from os x 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 and I,ve been experiencing problems with my M-Audio Audiophile firewire soundcard since then.

When I turn on my computer I get a message stating that it doesn't find any M-Audio devices plugged in and that I have to restart or reinstall the drivers.

I did that and it worked for a few days, but then my comp went bazerk and crashed on me. After restarting I had the same problem again, my card couldn't be found.

Even worse now, Ableton and the M-Audio control panel will not shut down properly when the M-Audio driver is installed. I went to the M-Audio site and there's no recent driver for my os.

Has anyone else have simular problems???
Can I downgrade back to 10.4.7? Any fixes? This sucks!

Thanks.

Shutdown the audiophile.
download the latest version of the drivers from the m-audio website.
Use the UN-INSTALLER to remove the existing drivers from your computer.
Install the drivers. Restart the computer and turn on the audiophile.

should work.

HI

Try installing last driver from M-Audio (this work for me). Be sure to follow instructions steps to install.

And/Or repair permissions with Onyx

If you problem persist, go to the Apple Install & setup forum. Here you will find a lot of similar posts (m-audio and firewire) problems with 10.4.8 update

Thanks a lot guys.
I think I discovered the problem.
My LaCie was connected to the second firewire port of my soundcard.
Thanks for the link to the Onyx app, the deep cleaning solved a lot of problems.

I'm new to OSX and can't figure out where or how to use the uninstaller. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The uninstaller is a separate app included with your m-audio driver download, it's that icon that looks like a crumbled piece of paper that's part of the unzipped .dmg driver package. You should see the uninstaller sitting right next to the installer after launching the dmg download.

not sure about maudio.....but there are more apps that do NOT have uninstallers than do.

with osx, it is perfectly acceptable to just drag the app components to the trash.

Also, trashing prefs is a popular possible remedy.

btw, 10.4.8 is a dog. There are more people upset/having problems with this update than all previous versions of tiger.

Hello. I am having this same problem. I have tried all the following:

using onyx to clean permissions

uninstalling and updating m-audio driver

looking for an answer on the apple forum

all to no avail. This M-audio firewire Audiophile keeps blinking at me.

Using: imac G5 2 GHz PPC with osx 10.4.8

Anybody else not able to fix their problem? I don't want to be the only one :)

Yes, I'm having this exact problem. Started yesterday, and I can't think of any precipitant for it (no new installs, etc). I've tried everything, even re-installed some previous versions of the driver, but nothing's working. Anyone got any suggestions?

I think I discovered the problem.

Yep, that's the problem alright. I had exactly the same problem with my Lacie external drive plugged into the FW800 port of my MBP with the m-Audio Projectmix plugged into the FW400 port. I found that disconnecting the Lacie solved the problem.

I spoke to a techy from M-Audio and he said something about an issue with the MBP firewire bus. Apparently the way it's designed is the FW800 and FW400 ports on the MBP share the same bus and the 800 speed drive affects the data transfer to the Projectmix. I bought a FW800 - 400 converter from Macheaven (http://www.macheaven.co.uk/?page=proddetail&prod=1339) which solved the problem for me.

Basically my FW800 port now operates as a FW400 port which resolves the issue completely.
