Sync Issues Using Live 6 and an MC-909.

Hi

I seem to have spent far too long trying to sort this out on my own but in despair have decided to come here to see if anyone can help.

I run Live 6 on a dual core laptop with a firewire soundcard and want to use it locked in time with my Roland MC-909.

I would preffer to use my 909 as a master in the setup but cant get the most pleasing results using it as either a slave or a master.

I have spent ages changing the individal track delays and the driver error compensation in the preferences menu (if thats what its really called). i used to have the same problem with Live 5 with the midi clock delay from the prefences menu.

I can get things in time it isnt totally out but things just sound sloppy compared to when i use my 909 as a master to control just Reason 3 - ive had to resort to this a bit more recently but i miss ableton and im sure its problem that can be solved.

If anyone could help me i'd be very thankful.

I recently tried to sync Live 5 to a Yamaha RM1X groovebox, with either the RM1X as master or as slave (I had the same problem with both).

I used the delay in Live's sync options to bring the two in line (so far so good).

I found that if I got the RM1X to trigger one kick sample on the Impulse, and Live itself to trigger a second kick sample, the two would drift audibly in and out of sync by a couple of ms (anyone - try it!)

Now, I've heard that the RM1X's timing is absolutely rock solid, and I've also heard several reports about Live's MIDI timing being a bit sloppy... so I guess we're hitting the same issue, and I would further guess that a lot of other people are too...

The best solution i have so far is to use ableton as the host for the midi information and just send this to the groovebox using it as a sound module but it does feel like it takes away a lot of the functionality of the groovebox and clutters the screen of my ableton projects.
with two such poweful pieces of equipment i would have thought there was a more functional solution to our problem.

I have got also a MC 909 and Ableton 6.

For me both synced perfect. I have Ableton from Version 4 and every Version synced with the 909.

Now I use MC 909 only as slave, because it is more comfortable.
You can control everything from ableton.

Do you use a midi interface ? (stupid question?)

I did - tried two different ones. One firewire (M-Audio FW 1814) and one USB (Access Virus TI)...

Ive currently got an M-audio FW410 and i had a 2496 Audiophile on my desktop computer that used to do the same.

Does the timing between your computer and 909 even sound out when you swap pattens? - i had it at one point where things sounded alright but the timing difference became obvious each time a new patterns first beat hit.

I have had the same problem syncing my Yamaha RS7000 to Live 5 using an Echo Audiofire 8 audio interface.
