Nothing ever plays back!

At first, things would play back (e.g in the tutorial) but would cut out after a few seconds. After a few minutes, everything stopped playing back, and I haven't been able to hear anything since then, both tutorial things and things I've recorded

I've checked my audio settings, they seem fine. What could be wrong here? My sound works perfectly in every other program, so it's got something to do with Live

Did you change the out puts to be something other than one/ two or mess with the crossfader settings?

the mistake I made when I first started using live was to play/record things in session view and then when I played the clips back in session view was baffled as to why I couldn't hear anything. Only when i clicked the 'back to arrangement' button could i hear what i'd just recorded. might not be the case for you but a stupid thing that took me far too long to figure out!
