OK, I did this last month and maybe somebody else may find it useful.
When you listen to snare drums, there are many words to describe its possible characteristics: just a few that come to mind are slap, smack, pop, and crack. I suppose there are time/spectral signatures that can quantify these terms but hopefully most people will get a sense for what they mean.
One characteristic I like to hear in certain contexts is "ring." This is generally emphasized in smaller snare drums with metal shells and tight heads.
I found this great drum set loop; the only thing I thought it was missing was a bit of this "ring" on the snare.
I created an additional audio track next to the track with the loop. I set the routing of the new track to get audio from the current one. Then I inserted a Resonators effect into the new track. I turned off all the additional resonators, left the frequency at C2, adjusted the fine frequency a little and set the decay very short. I also left the pre-filter in, set to bandpass and I think the frequency that sounded good was about 2.64 kHz. I had the mix at 100% and set the level of the track low, but you could have just as soon done it the other way. This added a nice little ring to the snare sound and it seemed to add something in the whole mix.
Reading this back I suppose I should add either some before and after sound examples or an als, but hopefully the description above is clear enough.
