yes, sure you can!
i recorded lots of poets... (well, two).
quality depends on your hardware etc, bus as far as Live is concerned, it's fine.

be aware though that changing a tempo of a voice recording mostly won't produce very naturally sounding stuff. can of course still sound interesting!

What kind of staff do you use? I do have Motu 828 and I don't see mic input in live.

...after having selected the motu as an audio in device in the preferences! :wink:
What kind of staff do you use?
i used to use a digi001, but since nowadays i almost do all my music on my tiBook and use my desktop mainly for browsing the ableton forum, i have to admit that i record directly thru the tiBook's line-in (via a mackie mixer as mic pre-amp). :oops:
