automating patterns in reason via rewire to live...possible?
Hello,
I was wondering if it's possible to atomate pattern changes in Reason's redrum from Live. It slays me that I can control the patterns manually from my secondary keyboard through live, but when I record that same midi data in live and try to send it to the redrum.... nothing. Is there any way to automate redrum patterns when rewired into live? I've been working on this for about 3 hours now. Even more rediculous is that according to propellerheads own site, it should work, but unfortunately, it doesn't

I believe you can do this using clip envelopes.
Route a Midi track output to reason's redrum. Insert a midi clip and select redrum and pattern chance on the envelope editor. Draw a horizontal line on the clip a the level corresponding to the required pattern.
Triggering this clip should now change the pattern on redrum. Repeat this for all your pattern variations.
If you work like this a lot, I'd save these into your default template.
Personally, I control redrum directly from Live's piano roll editor. Could never see what's so great about step sequencers, myself. Think that's right. I'm at work, so can't check it now.
Hope this helps.

Oooops. Ok, that is "selected pattern" in 5. I can see how this might work. What I was hoping for was some way to control the pattern by setting them up to recieve note information. All I can guess is that when I'm sending note info to change the patterns from my keyboard, it must enter Reason directly, and when notes enter from Live, they are not detected, at least not by the pattern selector. This was one HELL of an oversite on Propellerheads part! They should have fixed it so the pattern selector could recieve midi the same as any other part of the instrument.
I think the best you could do is to set a clip for each pattern and use the keyboard to launch each clip (you may want to play with these clips launch settings).
Or you could probably set something up with bidule or something. Other users seem to work out all sorts of compliacted tricks with this, but I can't help you there, I'm afraid.
