Live 5 and External MIDI Equipment! Help!

Hi everyone very new to ableton very happy with it however how do I go about using my external JV1010 in LIVE 5? I think I have the connections right the trouble is selecting the different patches If anyone can please submit step by step instruction for Live and external synth. :(
