"external sync", turn on automatically?

Post by mux » Fri Nov 24, 2006 4:38 am

Can anyone please tell me if it's possible to have Live start up with the 'external sync' setting already turned on?

I'm using Live headless on a rackmount PC, and I wouldn't need to hookup a monitor and mouse every friggin' time (except if there were problems) if I could just get the program to start up already set to sync to my incoming MIDI clock.

I've googled and rtfm'd, is there a hidden switch somewhere?

Seems like it should be a totally easy FEATURE...

Can we consider this an official REQUEST? :D

I have 14 tracks in Live.

Six of the tracks contain audio clips, like basslines, percussion loops, vocal loops, etc.

The other eight are incoming audio feeds from my hardware synths and drum machines.

I use a Behringer BFR2000 MIDI controller to trigger clips and control volume (Live functions as my mixer). Each "song" has three clips of each type; three basslines, three synth loops, three ER-1 percussion loops, three analogue percussion loops, etc. I map buttons on the BFR2000 to trigger each clip, then use the "presets" on the BFR to indicate what song I am currently playing. This way I can trigger any clip in my set at any time - for instance, I know that these three buttons will always be basslines, so if I want the bassline from song 7, I switch the BFR to preset 7 and hit the bassline button that I want.

I played live without a computer since 1999, but now I have a computer in my set. I don't want to be another one of those guys that stares at a computer monitor all the time, so I came up with this method to not have a computer monitor or mouse in my live show. :)

It works great, check it out:

Huh? Oh, I see... I guess I don't mean "14 tracks", I mean "14 channels".

No, I write all my own music, and arrange it live. Six of my fourteen channels of audio are loops, but the other eight are hardware synths and drum machines. I'm not a DJ, I've never played anyone else's music.
