Save Keyboard and MIDI mapping to Macros in Racks!!

Post by Machinesworking » Mon Nov 27, 2006 7:00 am

What the tittle sez. I have no idea why this isn't so? You could use any MIDI controller, and save multiple sets for all knobs etc.

No excuses as to why this is left out. We have multiple MIDI assignments to the same parameter now, why not the ability to save the assignments to Racks?????

I can see the advantage. I can also see some weird situations when you drag in that second rack with all it's knobs mapped to the same controllers.

Would you get a dialog box? Would it ask which rack got to keep it's assignments? Would both be kept and just added together? Would you get to choose which ones to keep on a per-macro basis?

I'm thinking automap may be the best way to deal with rack macro knobs. I'm less convinced about any other parameters though

If you just want to map macro's. use automapping.
One assignment fits all.

You have to have an Automap compatible controller though, and I have an X-Station. Novation's controller solution released right before Automap..... :(

Actually Hoffman, if you know the link to the thread where an Abletoner points to a way to make the X-Station Automappable, I would be pretty stoked! :)

Found that thread probably while you were posting! :) , and it's not working for the X-Sation..... can't figure out why?

Set up UserConfiguration.txt in folder named X-Stat in folder User Remote Scripts in directory

~/library/Live 6.01/User Remote Scripts/X-Stat/UserConfiguration.txt

Selected X-Stat in Live Preferences for Control Surfaces, it automatically finds the X-Station..... but ZERO response from the volume slider in Live...... :?

THIS is why I would just like to be able to save a Rack with MIDI controls assigned to it......

Define "not working".
It works with any controller capable of sending MIDI CC's for me.
Are you trying to map notes or CC's?

Have you filled in the right CC's and Ch's?
Did you double check with a midi monitor?

Better yet. Just paste the contents of the textfile.
It'll be easier to see if its a bug or user error.

No problem. As long as i get some more info then "it doesn't work", then i might be able to help.
I've made 2 of these maps without a problem before.
And once i knew what needed mapping, it only took 5 minutes to make them...

While we're at it, thanks again Hoffman for linking me to that earlier for my TI. Works great, really makes tweaking fun...

Feel free to send it over with a little description of it's functions.
Once i collected a few maps, i'll put them up on the covops site.
Just mail it to b@thecovert.... com

Assign CC 49 to volume 1 in the , same as MIDI controller, X-Station plainly states in the LED readout that slider is sending CC 49. X-Station is selected in the Control surface preferences in Live 6. MIDI channels all are OK....
Path is OK. ~/library/preferences/Live 6.01/User remote Scripts/X/UserConfiguration.txt
"X" being the name that pops up for the script in the Control Surfaces drop down.
I can even assign the ports for the X-Station driver, and it auto assigns them when X is selected. So far I've been able to get the Stop, Play, and Record buttons to respond, but nothing else, the rest is not working.

The X-Station is sending MIDI, I can assign the controls via MIDI mapping in Live, but the script for me, isn't happening so far. :(

Could you paste (or mail me) the contents of the script?
In theory i should be able to test it with my BCR.
