why some midi files dont work?

like when i try and drop some midis.... there is just a sotp sign in the ableton
about 1/3 of my downloaded midi files are like this..
any idea... i look at the files and I cant tell the difference between ones that work and ones that dont..
but they all play fine in quicktime.

Are you talking about dropping midi files you made outside of ableton?

no, he's talking about midi files that you find online. like old school polyphonic ringtones are in midi format but don't open well in some sequencers.

either they don't open at all or instead of being a multi-track midi all the notes are comibined into a single midi.

i unfortunatly dont' know the answer but i'm guessing whatever software people use to write these ringtones doesn't resonate well with sequencers.
