Ultra Newbie question

Okay...this world of digital PC based recording is pretty much nuclear science for me.

I'm running the M-Audio Black Box using the Live Lite 6M software it came with. I can get guitar tracks down, and of course the drum/rhythm stuff. All of this seems to be recording fine. But I CAN'T for the life of me get the microphone to record/work. I know I have it plugged in correctly to the XLR input in the back, and I can tell I'm getting a signal...strong enough to clip even. But NONE of that channel seems to be communicating to my computer. And I THINK I've selected every possible channel combination in the "input types" area. So...I've been staring at this for three hours now, and can't figure it out. HELP!!!! ; )

That is wierd...Maybe your cpu doesnt like your voice

I would go to the preferences in live, check all inputs to active. Then go to clip view in live and as you say things into the mic like "Check 1 2 3" or "My breff smells wierd bouncing off this mic" I would at this time look at the box directly under the input dialog in the clip view. Which is the where you select which input you want live to record and see which channel has movement in levels. Hopefully you went to the top of the screen where it says view and checked inputs to be shown. My thoughts are that since you already recorded guitar you would of done this. Maybe I misintrepted what you said "getting guitar tracks down" to me that means recording, to you that might mean using existing samples and meaning you know how to sequence or arrange guitars sounds.

Worst case scenario, if you are recording gutiar tracks in live via your sound card, just plug a mic into that same gutiar input. Of couse this mic would not require phatom power for this test to work.
