My computer is turning itself off when i use Ableton 5

Hi all,

I've had 5 live for about a year now, and apart from the odd cpu issue it's been working fine.

However, i recently purchased an Allen & Heath xone 3d mixer.

This mixer comes with its own soundcard, and is quite an improvement on the card i was using previously.

However, i've been working on some tracks, and my computer has started turning itself off when i've been in 5 live, using my xone 3d soundcard. I've noticed that this tends to happen when my cpu hits about 70%.

Has anyone else had similar problems....anyone know how to sort this out?

The cause for the crashes is probably poor cooling for the CPU. At least that's what I've experienced with my PC and with CPU intensive applications (including Ableton Live when using lots of VST's and tracks). The only way to help this has been to improve cooling in the case (i.e. clearing enough space for the air to flow freely and installing more/better fans) and freeing resources under Windows, i.e. disabling services and shutting down other applications that run in the background. I still haven't eliminated the problem completely, but I have been able to cut down on the crashes significantly.
