Is Live your only DAW?
Is Live your only DAW?
Hey just curious - (if this hasn't been asked before) - how many people get by with just Live, and how many people used another DAW for production-intensive stuff (and maybe rewire to Live just for loops)?
The reason I ask is because for me, the Arrange page has some limitations -
1. no play-from-last-start-point hot key
2. no easy bypass grid hot key when dragging clip start/end/placements
3. any monitoring changes made while recording a track get recorded as automation even if that track isn't rec-enabled! ...this one really gets me
4. no per-track midi volume automation - to me this make a lot more sense up in the track rather than down in the midi clip - at least give us a choice in prefs...
I'm just wondering whether other people have Arrange page issues and if so, do they have workarounds or do they just use another application?
Brian
p.s. I've whined about this before, but if I have a clip in the sample editor window I've been working on, and then I click somewhere in blank space up on the Arrange page just as a way to set a new playback start point, I don't want my clip to disappear from the editor window!!! (i.e. "No clip selected") It's kind of obvious, but the clip editor window should only try to chase my clicking if I.... ***click on another clip*** !!!

I rewire Live to Cubase for pretty much every track I do with vocals. It's sweet for vocal editing/arranging. The main things that prevent me from only using Live are:
1. properly functioning group tracks
2. a folder track-like function (like in Cubase) that will allow me to minimize the view on X amount of assigned tracks tracks
And that's about it. I constantly tell myself that for pretty much these 2 reasons alone, it's ridiculous that I'm not making the complete switch. Those 2 things are really that important to me, though, in order to have a steady workflow.
Starting to get sidetracked... but yea... that's my long short answer.
