ASD files don't load if mp3/asd renamed > 64 chars

Post by timothyallan » Wed Dec 27, 2006 4:30 pm

Right, so I am going through and categorizing my mp3s which entails changing the filenames to include key and bpm.

What I have found through many hours of pain is that if you rename an mp3/asd combination to > 64 characters, you have to rewarp the track as the ASD is no longer linked to the mp3 according to Live 6.0.3.

So if I had 60characterfilename.mp3 and 60characterfilename.asd
and rename them to 63characterfilename.mp3 and 63characterfilename.asd, the warping is preserved, no problem.

However! As soon as you hit the 64 character limit, dropping the mp3 into Live will just look like you've never done anything to it.

This is -very- frustrating as some tracks take forever to warp and putting the extra information at the start just pushes them over the 64 character mark.

I've tried tricks like creating a new asd with the <64 char mp3 filename and then copying the old one over top, and I cannot find a workaround other than redoing all the warping/volume adjustments etc etc

Any suggestions guys?

Cheers,
Tim

Edit: This is on a PC running WinXP SP2

Hello,

This is true, it is a problem with Quicktime on PC. Still, it is a much better idea to use Quicktime rather than Direct Show on the PC, but for now try to rename such long named files.

It is not so easy to find a solution to this problem but we are working on it.

Cool, thanks Amaury.

Ideally people wouldn't make tracks with such long names :)
