I think I've discovered a work around for the Launch Hang on my G4.
I noticed it would hang and freeze the system as it was initializing the audio inputs and outputs. I found that if I first launch something that uses the outputs like iTune or Audion (leave it open) and then launch Live it opens fine. I don't know what this means exactly but it works for me and helps so I don't have to reboot. I was hoping I had given that up by moving to OS X.
System is G4 dual 800 MHz 1 gig Ram OS 10.2.8
Cheers,
J

You're right..that does keep Live from crashing..but I still can't get any sound out using core audio..However, live works fine as a rewire slave under ProTools. As I wrote to technical support, curiously Peak works fine with CoreAudio.
Also, re another problem people have had with Waves.Peak uses the AU version, not the VST plugins of Wave 4. Live is something of a mess right now. It seems to me when I tried it in OS 9.2.2 I had no problems and Waves worked fine. Maybe I wasn't using Waves 4, however, to be fair.
