Probably something bloody simple but...

Post by lordcyrus » Thu Jan 04, 2007 5:20 am

...my brand new MacBook won't show me my VST's. I'm using Live 5.2.2 (intel-mac) and I know they work - I've been using a few from SmartElectronix and DFX, etc. on my PC for years. I DL'd the OSX version of them and saved them to MacHD>Library>Audio>Plug-Ins>VST. The only VST that showed up was Crystal. Interestingly, Crystal was the only plug-in with the ".vst" suffix. The rest were all ".dll" If anyone can put me back on the path to enlightenment, I would be one blissed-out Buddha.

You don't just need an OSX version of them, you need a universal binary version to run on an intel mac. And from the constant bitching I read on here, there aren't that many UB plugs.

hehe. Maybe "constant bitching" is not really the way to put it, but you catch my drift

I had a feeling the transition from PC to Mac couldn't be this smooth. I notice now on KVR's site that they have Windows, PPC, and "Universal". I DL'd a few "Uni's" and they worked fine. Guess I'll just have to bug the guys at SE..or just buy some hardware - grrr... thanks for the quick response, homie.

Does anyone know if there is a collection of Universal Binary VSTs/AUs? Or links to different developers' websites somewhere? This would certainly be way more handy than scouring the web for something I know very little about. Tanks, y'allz
