connecting many MIDI devices to the audio interface+
I am sorry, i am a newbie.
And i have many midi devices. like the trigger finger, a keyboard midi controller, now i am getting the bcf2000 for fader control.
but everytime i have to disconnect the keyboard so i can use the trigger finger, and then disconnect the other to use the other,
Which is the most easy and common way to mantain all connected to the midi in my audio interface???
Thanks very much
Ps: I also heard that eventhough many units can have USB it is the best advise to always connect it thru midi for instant control.
Is this true???
thanks AGAIN

get a bus powered midi-interface. this will take up one of your USB connections.
you can get 5 in 5 out , or 2x2, whatever you want. MOTU is good.
i would like a midi interface that connects via my soundcards' midi in/out, and powers off a regular A/C., instead of USB.

I can't see why this should be.Ps: I also heard that eventhough many units can have USB it is the best advise to always connect it thru midi for instant control.
I have all my controllers connected by USB - no probs. Trigger Finger, Axiom 49, BCF 2000 and the Korg Legacy controller. You might need a powered USB hub, though. With correct drivers they all show up by name instead of just "Midiport A" or whatever...

I am on a imac G5. so i only have 3 usb.
And i have been told that by using a USB hub iam technically taking a lot of power to power let's say 4 units, being actually powered by only one USB .
That it is not advisable to conect your direct control by USB in to a usb hub.
I have the usb hub, and when i tried my trigger finge thru usb only, there was a minimal latency. when i did thru midi there was no latency,
(i mean latency of reaction in the screen).
thanks

I can't see how cramming several controllers trough a USB midi interface should be any different than running them through a USB hub. I you run them through a midi interface they need their own power supply - hence 3 or 4 wallwarts. If you run them on a powered USB hub only one wallwart. Quite an easy choice!

I too had unusual behaviour when using a cheap (30$) USB hub.
first of all , the spaghetti wires and the small and light design of the hub, was awkward and ugly.
second, i would get midi annomolies, things going weird in AUDIO/MIDI setup in my P-book. or devices not being recognized. it also seemed to matter which device was plugged into which of the random 4 hub ports. it was finicky.
stopped using the USB hub, all my controllers work flawlessly.
if i were to get another USB hub i would try for the biggest, heaviest one i could get, so it would stay put.

Re: connecting many MIDI devices to the audio interface+
I have a similar problem. I have a novation 25 mkii which has midi in,out, through but is currently hooked up through USB and it works great so I tried to hook up my brothers yamaha synthesizer which has only USB connection and my computer said that the drivers could not be installed. So I tried to do so manually off their website and again my comp. Said that only one driver is supported at a time or something like that. Anyone else run into this in their USB adventures! Or am I the only shmuck who can't connect more than one USB midi controller? HELP!
