Can I sell unused Academic version of Live 6?

Post by parke02 » Fri Jan 19, 2007 10:10 pm

I have an unopened unactivated academic version of Ableton Live 6. It was a gift that my girlfriend purchased for me from Ebay. The seller won't let her return it.

Yes, I know Live 6 is great.. I have Live Lite 6 and plan on upgrading this to the full version in the future.

Can I sell my academic version of Live 6?

I don't think there is a difference between an Academic and Full Version other than the price.

There aren't any differences other than price.

But are there any legal issues with me selling the academic version? Do I need to verify that the buyer is a student/teacher? Will the buyer be eligible for support, updates etc...

Yeah -- not sure I understand why you'd want to sell this and upgrade from a lite version, unless you need the money now. I think the lite upgrade is more expensive than the academic price (though I may be wrong). I suppose if you aren't actually a student it would be reasonable to feel guilty about the academic price (though I am a student and didn't know about the academic price when I bought live, so you could send me the difference ;-) ).

I don't want Live at this moment due to a couple workflow issues I'm very unsatisfied with the current version of Live, e.g. folder tracks, group solos.

I'm sure this will eventually be implemented, and I'll more than likely purchase Live if it is.

But yea, I am a student and in need of the money right now and the box will be sitting there untouched. So, I'd like to sell it

I am sure your girlfriend is really pleased with you wanting to sell her gift to you on ebay!

Thanks Selthym, that was helpful.

My girlfriend is understanding, utilitarian and would not get upset over something trivial. Its the thought that counts, and the money is going to other audio software. Its not like I'm selling Live to buy a bottle of johnny and some weed.

wow, wish my girlfriend bought me audio stuff. She usually buys me posh fancy scottish wool Jumpers that are cosy but not as fun. Think yourself lucky!
