Weird audio latency/midi sync problem with Macbook

Post by evilxsystems » Sun Jan 21, 2007 1:41 am

So I switched to using my macbook's internal sound card since I was having noise problems with my M-audio transport with the macbook. It works ok, but I'm having a weird syncing issue that's driving me nuts.

Basically my set up is I have two external synths that are synced with midi and are run back into Live via the sound card for live monitoring and effects processing. I set the midi delay to compensate for the audio latency (sound coming from the synths into the audio in on macbook's internal soundcard). I get it all locked in and everything is fine, sounds tight...great.

The problem is. if I stop working and check my email or something or surf the web, come back and start the Live set playing again, sometimes the midi delay is off...way off, my normal delay compensation is around -70ms and I'll have to adjust the delay to like -160 to get it synced back up...then it's fine for a while...then it switches back...so I need to adjust it back to -70....what the fuck is going on!??! this is driving me nuts.... :x

I should add that I've used this setup for a while and never had this problem with my old powerbook....

I think what's going on is other applications are switching the bit-depth of the sound card, throwing off the midi-sync delay timing, if I go into audio-midi setup and set the bit depth back to 24 bit, the timing is right again.

Has anyone else had this problem?
