Does anyone have a decent way to trigger a gate of some kind with a programmed sequence? This would chop the sound at intervals determined by the sequence...

There are loads of VSTs for this. Go to KVR and search for Gates.

There was a nice discussion of sidechain gating in E. Musician Jan 2007.

Shure wish Ableton's gate could sidech... oh never mind.
