Alex C = Experitronica - Air Port (relaxing electro)

After hearing Tycho's album "Past is Prologue" and being a big fan of boards of Canada, and related productions I decided that I'd produce a few relaxing, entirely original tracks and see if I could work up a solid album.

I've started to do this under the alias "Experitronica" as Alex C is associated more with mashups & remixes.

So a new slate has started - and my first full-length that I'm really happy with is called "Air Port".

It's currently available for download at http://experitronica.alex-c.com and you can also stream it from that page as a taster.

For those who are interested - I'm also going to be making the individual parts available for remixing soon - as I'm hoping this might give me some variation for a quality single-EP-type release. I'll post a thread when the parts are up.

It would be great to hear people's thoughts, and feedback.

I am a big fan of BoC and I totally dig this music style. I love the beautiful beginning drifting away somewhere..can't really describe it music wise but I would certainly want to hear more music!

Could you tell me what kind of set-up you have in Ableton so I can fiddle around with this music style?

I like a lot of it.
The big breathy choir sound comes off a bit pretentious though I think.
The arps are kinda playful and the big fake choir sounds wrong in the context.
Also, what happens if you back off the verb a bit, no wait a lot

it's a fairly simple setup in Ableton 6.

I used Absynth 5 for some of the sounds, and others were standard ableton synths. Drums were also ablteon standard, however I'm going to be re-working them and beefing them up a little - as well as refining some sounds for a final master.

Hardware - I've just switched from a CME UF7 - down to an M-Audio O2 - I've been trying to compact everything a bit more, and I really only need something the size of an M-audio. Soundcard - just onboard sound from my Shuttle XPC case - but it's run through a 5.1 amp - and through some original Wharfdales which my dad passed down (Wood cabinets - before Wharfdale went pish).

I think you're right with the breathy sound - I want to tone that down and refine it a little.

The arps are my favourite bit - I love hearing them on their own!

Without the verb it would lose some athmosphere - and I think the track relies on that - so I'll be leaving it in for the master - but again, it will probably be tweaked based on feedback.

I'm actually having a club mix done - and I have a professional singer considering vocals for it.
