I don't know if this is a bug or if it has been mentioned already but try this:
Create an empty set and add an effect to an audio track.
Now click on the effect to highlight it and then add more effects to the track. Doesn't matter how many.
Now if you right-click on the last effect added to delete it, the whole chain will get selected and deleted.
