guitar rig setup help
hey im wanting to use ableton for effects for my guitar.
i was thinking of running
guitar to firebox to ableton to firebox out to guitar rig.
ive been reading that a lot of people are using guitar rig and amplitube, but im guessing thats just for recording?
im just wondering if people are using the simple set up i want to use
thanks

install the guitar rig vst into your vst folder (check under options->preferences->files).
Guitar Rig is just like any other effect, you record the dry guitar input and Live routes that into a series of FX, in this case, an amp simulaiton with guitar FX. Cool thing is that you can change your tone (guitar rig preset) at any time later.

what im wondering is
is anyone out there running ableton for effects but doesnt run guitar rig or amplitube.
im wanting to use it only for reverb and delay effects and such.
my real head and cab will take care of tone.
guitar to computer to head and cab.
im just wondering if anyone has advice on that.

hey greg,
1. you will have a latency issue, if you want to use the direct guitarsignal with the fx and then to your head. (additional to the latency you wil have if you a a few meters away from your amp.) even if you use a better soundcard (like the firebox).
2. may be the better way is to use direct monitoring of the input and combine it with the fx audio. This way your original signal goes almost without latency to your head, but the fx do.
3. If you want to use the overdrive of the amp you should use fx-out and -return (if you got one) to the in-/output of the firebox.
4. from my point of view (i am no friend of amp simulations) I would use a microphone in front of the box (or i.e. a red box) to keep the best possible guitarsignal) and go with this signal into your soundcard -> ableton -> soundcard -> stereo-amp/di-box & p.a. -> cabinets
5. probaply the easiest way to work with ableton as aclive guitar effect is using an ampsimulation like amplitube and so using your laptop as a preamp with fx and then into a decent poweramp with cabinet (mono or stereo)
best
