Weird Problem With Guitar Rig 2
Weird Problem With Guitar Rig 2
I've used Ableton for a while now, and I've come across a weird, crippling problem with Guitar Rig. Ableton worked fine for a long time. Even with the current setup I have now (More on that later) it worked. But then I reformatted and reinstalled Windows. I installed Ableton, but never tried running it. Then I installed Guitar Rig and tried to get that running. It didn't work at first. I reinstalled and reinstalled, and reinstalled again. Then I came across my problem. I hadn't installed service pack 2 yet. I went ahead and did that and everything worked fine. Well, almost.
I also installed GTA San Andreas. Suddenly, that wouldn't run. (Fixed that problem later. The I tried to run Ableton.
The loading screen popped up. Then suddenly, errors. The typical Windows "Send us an error report, hurr." I haven't been able to get it to run at all. After checking what is in the error report, It says "ModName: ni_asio.dll".
Heres where it gets a little weird. I run the actual guitar rig box like a sound card. I route all the windows sounds through it, and I listen to everything through the headphone out. The weird part: if I let the error sit, Ableton loads normally, except I have no audio. I hear everything that windows plays, just not ableton. I've tried upgrading, reinstalling ableton AND Guitar Rig, everything I've heard of. I'm sure Ableton is trying to send audio through Guitar Rig, but it just doesn't work.
Again, I've used this setup before, and it worked fine. It just won't run now.
My Computer:
P4 2.4
512MB Ram
I'm using Guitar Rig as a sound card.
Edit:
Guitar Rig works fine.

I had the same problem! Not that I installed GTA S.A. but something went wrong at some point and I ended up with similar issues. Sadly enough, I reinstalled Windows and everything else. Now I have a Symantec Ghost image that I can recall just before any show in case something goes wrong. You should do that as well: reinstall everything and set it up the way you like it. BEFORE DOING ANY MUSIC on that computer, right after the workstation is all set, with your instruments, plugs etc. BACK UP using Symantec Ghost. It will create a snapshot of your computer that you can use to clone the "perfect workstation" back. It does that by completely replacing your HD contents with what was cloned.
It works and it's fast, very effective against "random gizmos".

Damn, I just noticed I also have a problem with Guitar Rig. As soon as I want to insert GR as an effect, the user interface thread blocks entirely. I can still play, but the audio apparently doesn't pass through Guitar Rig, since it can't complete loading. This forces me to kill the Live process because the ui doesn't respond.
