[tip] reassigning, remapping ANY keyboard shortcuts on mac

Post by Gertius » Fri Feb 23, 2007 8:02 am

hi guys,
had a nice find yesterday night and haven´t seen anything in the forum so here goes:
I wanted to remap the "record" hotkey in live cause I find the ProTools shortcut for record (cmd space) just so convenient. but "space" etc. is hardwired in live, so you can´t normally use it for remapping or change it. To do so anyway I found the free program Butler (http://www.manytricks.com/butler), which basically lets you reassign keyboard shortcuts in OSX (sorry, I think no win version), even only for certain applications. for example, you could tell butler to execute [F9] and [Space] (after another), when "cmd space" is pressed. for it to work, you have to deactivate "cmd space" as the spotlight shortcut in system prefs, though. if F9 doesn´t work for you, because of exposé, just either deactivate it for exposé, or remap another key in live to lives "record" and save as a template.
that pretty much works for every hotkey combination, so now for example I can also zoom like in ProTools (cmd-[and cmd-]) and can undo with cmd-y (with the german keyboard layout y and z are switched).
cheers!
