starts fast gets slow

Hi everyone

I've got the Live Delta version
computer is Athlon XP1700, 256DDR ram, audiophile 2496.
and have two issues with it

1. when recording the program records fine, but if I keep recording for roughly say 4 minutes or more it gets really slow and actually freezes up.

2.Even when I don't save anything, it saves big files anyway, which need to be manaully deleted, is there any settings?

To give more details this happens with only 1 or two tracks
(est 3-5 minutes each) and no plugins or effects in use! Motherboard is Asus A7N266-VM. est 8 gig spare on single drive

Do I need to use two seperate drives, one for OS one for recording?
Are there any Motherboard buffer settings that can be adjusted?

could the soundcard buffer settings or latency adjustments in Live help? it doesn't seem to.

Not sure if I fully understand you problems, but i'll try to help. When you close a live set, it asks if you want to remove unreferenced samples--if you click NO, all the samples no longer used in you set will be deleted--should keep you folders to the minimum size. The actual ableton set files are tiny, its just the sounds in the folder that take up space--keep only those sounds you need.

Yes, having the audio record folder on a seperate drive (preferably firewire or faster connection) that spins at 7,200 and has a low seek time and large cache helps.

The only thing I can think of is this--your problem "might" be heat. I had somewhat simialar problems (large, long audio files taxing the cpu unaccordingly) on my toshiba laptop. Turns out that a nasty 1/8" thick blanket of fiber and dirt had accumlated between the fans and the heatsink. Taking out the heatsink and getting rid of this dirt mad a HUGE performance difference. Are you fans always on? If so, this may be indicative of heat problems, which can cause you processor to slow down, or even totally shut off the whole system (this was happening to me). Dirt sucks.
