Alan Watts Philosophy (god, creation, zen, etc)

Post by Nuance24 » Fri Mar 02, 2007 8:25 am

I usually just read the forums - most of my Live questions have already been answered - but that God Delusion thread was really interesting, surprised at all the responses. I was gonna respond but i thought this would lead in another direction, so here's my thread.

Ive been listening to Watts' lectures for a few months now (still haven't heard em all) and have been completely enlightened. I think westernized people get way too caught up in basing their beliefs -around- christianity. Atheism, evolution, etc are all just opponents of christianity and do as much to polarize the far right conservatives as it does to open up rational people's minds. When i talk to christians i dont even mention atheism or evolution because there is no concrete evidence that can be shown at once to end those arguements and i doubt there ever will be. christian faith and religion is so openly interpretable that its usually a futile discussion. Fundamentalists, on the other hand, are a completely lost cause so just ignore them. They'll all kill eachother eventually. :)

Anyway, check out the Alan Watts stuff, the podcast is a weekly thing so keep listening, check p2p sites for more since its apparently all being released through the podcast eventually. The more you think you know from this guy, the more you have to learn.

I just can't believe how misled people are when the reality of it all is right in front of us at all times.

You should add this to the mammoth Dawkins thread, it's been in lots of directions already, so why not another, and you'll probably get a better response.

You were doing really well until that last line.

You may wish to ponder the following:
"Seek out the company of those who are searching for the truth. But avoid at all cost those who claim to have found it!"
Thanks for the link though.

I love Alan W Watts.

Around 15 years ago I read every book he wrote (several times) including his autobiography "In My Own Way"(which is great if you can find it...)

His writings had a profound and very positive impact on my life.

Only in the last year have I been able to hear recordings of him speak via Youtube. The Internet is truly marvellous for some things...

Thanks for the link :)

Cheers,
bagginz
