midi device not getting signals from live

i'm trying to use a yamaha rx8 drum machine through a midi-usb cable to trigger drum sounds in live but the midi track in indicator doesn't flash when i push the buttons.

under midi sync in preferences, the midi inputs and outputs show up as E-MU XMidi1X1 Midi In under the midi ports section and i have every single device on there turned on for track, sync, and remote.

i even assigned the 12 keys on the drum machine to specific notes (C1-B1) and lowered the octave of the computer keyboard to C1-D2 to match.

i don't know what the deal is, it's not even receiving signals
