USB hub recommendation

Post by anti-banausic » Fri Mar 16, 2007 2:05 am

Was looking at the Belkin powered 7 USB port hub:

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductP ... _Id=158910

Getting a Macbook and need more USB ports.

Any good news on this Belkin, I had one once and the adapter went in the first week. The 4 port model that looks like a disk.

Kinda scares me away from Belkin, but they are one of the better known companies. Seem to have good reviews at Newegg.

Also, which port should i plug this into again, just going to have a logitech mouse, UC33e, and BCR2000 for now.

Thanks in advance.

I bought a Belkin USB hub and had trouble with it. Same one I think you're referring to, round shape. I returned it to Best Buy. I have a no-name Chinese USB hub, passive, works great.

Thanks for the reply.

I need to get this today or tomorrow, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not going to go passive, probably will have far too many things plugged in for that.

would there be additional latency when using a korgpadkontrol connected through a hub ? or should it be just as quick ?

the diff. would be in the nanosecond region I think. To the user it will be just as quick.

I use a Sandberg powered 7-port. Very compact, very reliable.

This would be more worthwhile if this thing actually had a name printed on it, but for what it's worth, I have a UC-33, PadKontrol, and Trackball Explorer plugged into it and all their lights come on, functionality is fine, etc, no power issues. But it's only 4 ports, 3 in use atm, HP laptop.

danke - one more question for everyone; if you have a usb2 port on your computer, and you use a 'high-speed' hub, and theres no other devices connected to it - should the hub operate at usb2 speeds ? or is it normal for these hubs to operate at usb1 speeds ?

for example, I tried using a belkin 'high-speed' hub with a usb2 flashdrive, and it moves data at usb1 speeds through the hub. Nothing else connected to the hub..

I thought perhaps I should get usb2 speed/bandwith from a high-speed/usb2 hub ? especially since nothing else is using the hub ?

Thanks all. Looks like I am making the purchase tomorrow.

Wasn't there an issue about which USB port to use on a Macbook?

Thanks again.

Soon to be a Machead!!!

Already loving the OS, even on this ancient G3 iBook. (10.4.7)

Everything just seems so much easier. Flame was ensues.

Don't worry, I will be dual booting, so I am not leaving XP/PC.
