Volume Fader Gone On Newly Inserted Track?

Post by defmut » Tue Mar 20, 2007 3:38 am

Hey guys,

Every time I insert a new midi track, I can get any sound out of it. There isn't a fader only dotted lines. How do I get sound out of my MIDI track?

Thanks!

Nice screenshot, helps a bunch.

On the top center of the window there's an arrow pointing to some horizontal bars, that controls which view (session or arrangement) has control over the track, in that screenshot you need to hit that button for arrange view notes to play, as it is, Live is listening to session view notes.

midi doesn't make a sound by itself. you need to put something that makes a sound into the midi track - options include simpler, sampler, operator or anything in vst format (and AU as well if you're on mac). alot of free vst's can be found at http://www.kvraudio.com. you might want to read the manual to help with all this...

I was playing in Battery in Session mode and dragged the clip to arrangement view and dropped it in an empty midi track. How do I assign Battery vst to that midi track.

Thank you all for your replies!

VST assigned to track X in session view is still assigned in arrange view to track X, just hit that button at the top center to get arrange view data to play.

The 'problem' is that you can have data in both views ready to play, Live has to be told which to listen to.

The back to arrangement light is not lit though. I know what you're saying about Live can't play both session and arrangement at the same time. I just dragged the clip from session in to a new midi track in arrangement and now I get sound. I tried this earlier and didn't work, now it did. Perhaps a bug, I don't know.

Thanks all for the help!

if your drums are on track 1, and you drag and drop the midi clip to track 1 everything should work the same... if you drop it to a new track (eg track 2) it won't send midi to your drums vst unless you route it there. the track you had highlighted in your picture doesn't appear to have anything on it as the dots are visible. they indicate midi activity (note on, note off and velocity) only.
