Shuttle PC For An Audio/Video Workstation

Post by STRATEGY_510 » Sat Mar 31, 2007 11:58 pm

I've heard a few grumbles about overheating, true?

Talking about running stuff like Live 5, Vegas 6, a bunch of plug-ins, maybe Pro-Tools M-Powered later..

Of course I'll get at least 2gb ram

Thanks,

this a vague response, but a response nonetheless..
i have a shuttle pc that was built for me about 2 years ago...
not to sure of the exact specs, but i have Athlon processor-1.83 gigaherz..
at least 512 of ram, possibly more..
Ati video card, and a new pci slot firewire card with a TI chipset for my Motu Ultrallte..
XP professional..
this machine is has been solid since the day i received it..of course, there is a prob with overheating initially, but was easily fixed-again, done by someone with prior knowledge of their circuitry..
4-5 of my friends all built a shuttle at the same time-we all had the same heat problem and they were all fixed immediately...involved a type of silver/silicon glue underneath the heatsync i believe..
i run:
Live 6.0 with Ultralite..Midisport 2x2 USB..
Some plug-ins/VST's:
Tweakbench, Reaktor 5, Absynth, FM7, Pro-53, Legacy collection, Minimoog emulator, etc..
Waves Diamond bundle, Tom Erbe suite, etc..
Soundforge 8, Fl Studio 6....
i trigger external synths via midi with almost zero latency, record multiple ins, etc..
basically, it's been a solid machine for me and the center of my studio for quite sometime..i also have 2 macs which i use for design and music, but i sit down to the pc everyday..
it's clean and away from the sun, kept smoke and dust free...i defrag all the time using Diskeeper..
