Optimizing video?

Post by GhostNoteLtd » Mon Apr 09, 2007 9:22 pm

Howdy.
Anyone know if there are optimal settings for viewing videos one imports into Live? Sometimes my videos get a bit weird, skippy or kind of unreliable. I wonder if anyone knows if there's a "prime" size, compression rate, audio type, etc etc...?

the most easy on the cpu video format is generally considered to be mjpeg or photo jpeg.. they can be quite big in file size, but playback very well.... newer advanced compression formats like h264 and mpeg 4/wmv should be avoided as they demand quite a lot of cpu to just playback..

Avoiding formats that uses Long GOP compression is crucial eg HDV & mpeg
Nobbystylus is exactly correct for this reason
Long GOP compresses the difference between frames (& eats CPU)
whereas formats like MJPEG (Motion JPEG) or PhotoJPEG compresses as discrete frames....
this matters a lot if you are jumping between frames a lot or say scrubbing backwards...

We exported at DVNTSC pro, using "Apple Lossless" audio at 44.1khz. Video is running smoothly and accurately.

Thought I'd post this so that people can reference if needed. :)
