Mpc's and computers...

I remember a while ago some guy getting a bit excited 'cos he'd decided an MPC was the way to go and computers were rubbish!

At first I thought what a twat!

Now a few months down the line I still don't think He should have been as smug as he was (self rightiousness is lame!). I've just bought an MPC 500 which I have no aspirations to finish a tune on but have found to be a brilliant combination with live.

I sat in the garden (Lucky day off after a night on the piss) the other day and got an idea together. Today I'm muting tracks on the mpc and trigering loops on Ableton. It's a brilliant feeling.

I understand that many of you are doing this already but I just had to say something.

I get really fucked off with people saying you should have this bit of kit or that bit of kit to make music. No one synth , sound card , hardware or software is the be all and end all of music making.

I've come across soooo much negativeness on the Akai forum towards the MPC 500 I'm just amazed any of 'em make any music. Why can't people see a peice of kit for what it can do, not what it can't?

Does this ring any bells with any one?

PS I'm a tad drunk, so if this a bit random then so be it!

IMO the mpc forums are really fucking lame. I want to bitch slap every fucker who feels that writing in ebonics is a demonstration of hip hop cred. Other people from here post there.

The mpc500 hating won't end, pretty much with an mpc1000 and the JJOS you can turn an mpc1000 into 90% of an mpc2500. Just be ready for the hate and accept that you like your box and you get out of it what you want.

I've been keeping an eye on the MPC500 forum for a while now as i'm tempted to get one to go with my Live set-up. The opinions on there are pretty extreme with some people raving about it, to one guy saying that you should throw it away or give it to your little brother because it is a toy....

There does seem to be a general feeling that the polyphony can run out fairly quickly and that the OS needs an update. I just need to get down to Sound Control or Turnkey to make up my own mind but it's encouraging to hear some positive feedback regarding its use alongside Live.

alot of time the "toy talkers" are people who use larger mpc's or are just fuckin biters trying to be like everyone else, kind of like the "oh man if it aint the LA2A it aint limiting" (bad bad bad analogy)

ok I see now. In an ideal situation, I'd get two mpc-1000s, besides being the most versatile of the mpc series right now, they are also in my opinion the perfect happy medium in size,function, and portability. you can throw one in a bag with a pair of phones and be set with everything you need without getting that feeling that you might be lacking ie: a large internal hard drive will hold everything.
the mpc 500 is nice and I'd like one myself, if you've got to be your lightest
it's a nice way to go, I make hiphop and I think it would be great to get myself a little portapotty consisting of an ipod full of vinYL, kaosspad, and mpc_500, there would be nothing i couldn't do with that set up.
