CPU spikes and drop outs, using FX for the 1st time..

Now this used to happen back in the ancient powerbook days, and didn't notice it for quite a while, but i have noticed recently, that the first time i use an effect, while playing live, i do get a CPU spike, which does mean sound drops out for a moment... i have gotten used to feeling 'confident' when playing live that i can throw things in without fear of spikes and dropouts, but i've noticed this happen recently, even when i've got a very basic live session with only a few clips...

MBP 1.83 Core Duo, 2 gig Ram, 15 gig HD free (160gig 5400rpm) 10.4.9.
